ORIGIN & HABITAT

Megalodon lived in oceans around the world millions of years ago.

Its fossilised teeth and other evidence tell scientists that this was a genuine prehistoric shark

rather than an unusually ambitious fisherman’s story.

 

RECOGNISED BY

Researchers should look for:

Enormous shark

Huge triangular teeth

Very large bite

General feeling that your boat is inadequate

Unfortunately, anyone currently recognising these features on a living animal should probably

stop taking notes and concentrate on leaving.

 

KNOWN FOR

Being one of the ocean’s great prehistoric predators.

Megalodon hunted large marine animals and possessed an enormous set of jaws equipped with formidable teeth.

Unlike many legendary sea monsters:

Fossil evidence confirms its existence.

But scientists consider it extinct.

Claims that Megalodon survives today have not produced convincing scientific evidence.

No confirmed modern specimen.

No reliable photograph.

No Megalodon politely presenting itself at Institute Headquarters.
